FAQs

What does an EIS do?

The EIS is a sophisticated automotive electronic component that, when inserted into the ignition lock cylinder, ‘tells’ the vehicle it can start after reading the key’s anti-theft coding.

How can I tell if my EIS is broken?

A common sign that you have a bad EIS is when the vehicle won’t start, the instrument lights don’t turn on, or the key won’t turn in the lock (sometimes only in cold weather). The only sure-fire way to tell that the EIS is faulty is to have a diagnostic test run on the vehicle with specialist equipment.

How is a Mercedes EIS replacement done?

A Mercedes EIS replacement involves removing the faulty ignition switch and installing a new or refurbished unit. At MercKeys, our skilled technicians ensure that the replacement process is smooth and that the new EIS is perfectly paired with your vehicle"s systems.

Can you repair the ignition switch without replacing it?

Yes, in many cases, a Mercedes ignition switch repair can resolve the issue without the need for a complete replacement. Our first approach is always to diagnose and repair the existing unit, ensuring cost-effectiveness for our clients.

Should I have my EIS repaired?

If you’re having intermittent trouble with your vehicle, our advice is to get it tested before complete electronic failure. This will save you from hassle down the road, such as unexpectedly getting stuck at home or suddenly stranded somewhere.

What is the difference between Mercedes EZS repair and EIS repair?

EIS stands for Electronic Ignition Switch, while EZS is the German abbreviation for the same system. In essence, they refer to the same component. Mercedes EZS repair involves diagnosing and fixing issues related to the electronic ignition switch of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Dale from Merckeys is an absolute legend!! A MASTER technician and a stand up bloke!! Dale from Merckeys went above and beyond to accommodate for my situation. Dale worked fast and explained what he was doing step by step for my simple mind. I saved ALOT of money as I was going to get charged an arm and a leg then some from an aftermarket workshop. I give Dale 10 out of 10 rating and will most definitely be recommending Merckeys. Thanks Dale and Merckeys simply the best!!? From a Mercedes owner on a low budget much appreciated.

Being a Merc owner with a W202 97 C class c230, my old key was beginning to die a slow death until it packed up 2 days ago, at a shopping center. Not able to get back into the car, i asked the Merc dealership down the road to assist, and they told me a new key would cost 3900 and 3 weeks to arrive. With no such time on my hands, I found Merc keys and had such great customer service and assistance from them. 2 hours later my car was up and running with a new key. Thanks again.
